We've been working on Material Of The Future for about 7 years now. The "we" part includes a core group of about four people with dozens and dozens of others supporting us along the way - many working for free.
Production of the film was run out of Long Beach Film Company in LA, CA and took place in Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Malawi, and around the USA, mostly from August 2010 to November 2011. We then spent a long 3-4 years editing a variety of versions of the film. Right when we had just about given up hope on finishing it, Friday Harbor Film Festival contacted us, offering to screen the film if we were able to finish it in time. Four weeks later, on November 7, 2014, MOTF premiered at the Friday Harbor Film Festival in Friday Harbor, WA and, subsequently, at the American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs, CA, Las Cruces International Film Festival, and the Ojai Film Festival.
On May 2, 2017, we made the 40 minute film available to the world on Vimeo On Demand (www.vimeo.com/ondemand/motf) where you can see it today (and we hope that you do!).
We've created this website as a way for us to connect with the digital world on a more daily basis. If you'd like to join the conversation, you can do that here, on our Instagram feed (@materialofthefuture, @longbeachfilmco) or on the Material Of The Future FaceBook page. Thank you for visiting!
